Welcome to the AraSLP Lab
The Arabic Sign Language Processing (AraSLP) Lab, directed by
Dr. Hamzah Luqman, conducts research in
sign language recognition, translation, and generation,
with a particular emphasis on Arabic sign language technologies.
The lab integrates methods from computer vision,
machine learning, deep learning, and
natural language processing to develop intelligent systems
that improve communication accessibility for the Deaf community.
Our research addresses real-world challenges through the creation of
annotated datasets, robust recognition models,
and end-to-end translation frameworks. We study both
isolated and continuous sign language recognition
and investigate multimodal approaches that incorporate manual
gestures and non-manual linguistic cues.
Research Focus
- Arabic and regional sign language processing resources
- Isolated and continuous sign language recognition and translation
- Sign language generation
The lab aims to produce both foundational research and
practical, deployable technologies that advance sign language
processing in the Arab world and beyond.
Want to join our lab?
We are open for collaboration on sign language recognition and translation. If you are interested, please get in touch with us by sending an email to hluqman@kfupm.edu.sa with the subject line "AraSLP Lab Affiliation". This request is an affiliation with the Lab.
