I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Information and Computer Science at King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM).
I am the founder and director of the Sign Language Recognition and Generation Lab (SLRG) , and a co-founder of the Vision and Language Lab (VLL) . I previously worked as a Visiting Professor at the University of British Columbia.
I obtained my PhD in Computer Science and Engineering from KFUPM in 2018, where my doctoral research focused on artificial intelligence, particularly computer vision and natural language processing.
My primary research interests revolve around machine learning and deep learning, with a strong emphasis on advancing Arabic-language technologies in both computer vision and natural language processing.
I am currently leading several projects related to large language models (LLMs) and visionโlanguage models (VLMs), with a particular focus on the Arabic language. I have received research funding from multiple organizations and hold several publications and patents in my areas of expertise. My work has been published in leading journals and conferences, including Pattern Recognition, Information Processing & Management, Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence, CVPR, WACV, and EMNLP.
